What are UTM Parameters?
UTM (Urchin Tracking Module) parameters are tags added to the end of a URL to track the effectiveness of online marketing campaigns in Google Analytics. By appending these tags to your links, you can see exactly which campaigns, channels, and content are driving traffic and conversions.
utm_source
Required. The platform or service sending traffic — e.g., google, facebook, twitter, newsletter.
utm_medium
Required. The marketing medium — e.g., cpc, email, social, banner, affiliate.
utm_campaign
Required. The campaign name to identify a specific promotion or product — e.g., spring_sale.
utm_term
Optional. Used for paid search to identify the keywords that triggered the ad.
utm_content
Optional. Differentiate between links in the same ad — useful for A/B testing.
